An Evening to Inspire…
You know climate change is occurring and that climate change is a threat multiplier — it places added stress on prevailing political, social and economic tension. But did you know that the countries most vulnerable to conflict and fragility tend to be the countries most at risk from climate change?
The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, a blueprint for peace and prosperity for people, depend heavily on the sustainability of our planet, including its oceans, forests, and land. Specifically, Goal 13 calls for member countries to take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts. With that said, UNAC (United Nations Association in Canada) Victoria and Model UN Uvic invites you to participate in our celebration of United Nations Day this October 24, 2019.
We kick off the night with panelists who’ve worked directly with the United Nations or United Nations agencies followed by two key-note speakers focused on climate change and climate action. The night aims to share the work being done at both local and global scales.
If you are interested in climate action, global affairs, or working with the United Nations, this event is for you.
Walk away with an understanding of what the United Nations is, what work is being done at the global level, how climate change impacts us, and what you can do to take climate action.
